Corroding Sausage Machine Piping

A large automated sausage cooking and flavouring machine manufactured from stainless steel showed severe corrosion of a selection of pipe fittings. CIS was asked to investigate and establish the root cause and recommend a suitable material for the piping. The root cause was poor weld practice and corrosion at weld heat tint. Pickling of welds after welding and use of different cleaning fluids and a change of stainless steel pipe grade has eliminated the problems.
